สารคดีเรื่องนี้ถ่ายทำในจังหวัดปัตตานี ชายแดนใต้ที่ถูกตราหน้าว่าเป็นฐานที่มั่นของผู้ก่อการร้ายมาเนิ่นนาน ทำให้ชาวบ้านในพื้นที่ต้องเผชิญกับการถูกปราบปรามอย่างรุนแรง ภายใต้กฎอัยการศึกที่คงอยู่มานานกว่าสองทศวรรษ ภาพยนตร์เรื่องนี้วิเคราะห์โครงสร้างทางสังคมในพื้นที่ผ่านมุมมองแบบเควียร์ของครอบครัวหนึ่งที่ไม่เป็นไปตามครรลองครองธรรม ได้แก่ อาจารย์สอนศิลปะชาวเกย์หัวขบถ หนุ่มมลายูผู้มีจริตเฉิดฉาย และแม่เลี้ยงเดี่ยวผู้เปิดกว้างต่อเรื่องทางเพศ
Filmed in Pattani, Thailand’s southern border province long stigmatized as a stronghold of insurgency, this documentary explores how local communities have endured decades of violent state repression under martial law, which has remained in force for more than twenty years. Through the queer perspective of an unconventional family, the film examines the social structures of a Muslim community: a rebellious gay art teacher, a flamboyant young Malay Muslim man, and a single mother with an open-minded attitude toward sexuality.

ธัญสก พันสิทธิวรกุล สำเร็จการศึกษาสาขาศิลปศึกษา จากจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ผลงานสารคดีที่ได้รับการยกย่องของเขา ได้แก่ Santikhiri Sonata (2019) ได้รับรางวัล Grand Prize จากเทศกาล DocLisboa และ Happy Berry (2004) ได้รับรางวัล Grand Prize จากเทศกาล TIDF (ไต้หวัน) ผลงานของเขาได้รับการคัดเลือกให้ฉายในเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติสำคัญหลายแห่ง อาทิ Berlinale, IDFA และ IFFR ผลงานในช่วงหลัง ได้แก่ Danse Macabre (2021) ได้รับรางวัล Merit Prize จาก TIDF, Damnatio Memoriae (2023) ได้รับคัดเลือกเข้าร่วม 60th Venice Biennale และได้รับรางวัล Special Prize จาก TIDF และ Are We Monsters? (2026) ได้รับรางวัล Best Short Film Award ในสาย Vanguard and Genre Official Competition จากเทศกาล BAFICI
Thunska Pansittivorakul graduated in Art Education from Chulalongkorn University. His acclaimed documentaries include Santikhiri Sonata (2019), which won the Grand Prize at DocLisboa, and Happy Berry (2004), which received the Grand Prize at TIDF (Taiwan). His films have been screened at major international festivals, including Berlinale, IDFA and IFFR. More recently, Danse Macabre (2021) received the Merit Prize at TIDF, Damnatio Memoriae (2023) was selected for the 60th Venice Biennale and received the Special Prize at TIDF, and Are We Monsters? (2026) won the Best Short Film Award in the Vanguard and Genre Official Competition at BAFICI.
