Megumi Lim is a Kyiv-based documentary filmmaker from Singapore, born in 1988. She holds a degree in Oil Painting from Tama Art University, Tokyo, and a Master’s degree in Journalism from Waseda University, Tokyo. She began her career as a video journalist in 2015 at the Reuters bureau in Tokyo, and for almost a decade — based in Tokyo and later as a freelancer in Beijing — she reported on news stories across Asia. Her journalistic work has been featured by Reuters, The Washington Post, The New York Times, ZDF, ITV News, The Straits Times, and Channel News Asia, among others. She was part of the ZDF team that received the Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize for its reporting on the 2019 Hong Kong protests and on China’s zero-Covid policy. She relocated to Ukraine in 2023, where she shifted toward documentary storytelling. Night Shift, shot during curfew hours and following night-shift workers in Kharkiv, marks her first entry into film festivals, where it has won an Audience Award and several other prizes.
