One night, as I lay in bed kept awake by the noise of the highway construction outside my window, I realized that a highway would cut through my hometown, Xiangzidian Village, forever. So, I set up a camera to document its construction. The process was like the erection of a modern stage, upon which my family’s joys and sorrows, partings and reunions, played out.
