Invisible People is an experimental documentary film devoted to Japanese buto dance. It includes a series of filmed portraits of buto masters and performers, paying particular attention to Yoshito Ohno, the son of buto founder Kazuo Ono, who died during filming. Bringing together elements of Tatsumi Hijikata’s poetic and philosophical texts on buto, life stories from various protagonists, and a mysterious quest for the “invisible people,” the film paints an intimate, multi-layered portrait of a unique contemporary dance evolving in shadowy zones between rebellion, eroticism, trance, ritual, meditation, prayer, ancestral experience, and physical anonymity.
Gradually moving away from its central subject, the film expands into a universal fresco of life itself, with its twists of fate and strange micro-connections.

Biography
อลิซา เบอร์เกอร์ เกิดในปี 1987 ที่เมืองมาคาชคาลา (สาธารณรัฐดาเกสถาน ประเทศรัสเซีย) และเติบโตในเมืองลวีฟ (ยูเครน) และเมืองเอสเซน (เยอรมนี) เธอศึกษาภาพยนตร์และวิจิตรศิลป์ที่สถาบันศิลปะสื่อแห่งโคโลญจน์ (KHM) และมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งชาติโคลอมเบีย โบโกตา ภาพยนตร์วิทยานิพนธ์ของเธอจาก KHM ในปี 2017 ทำให้เธอได้รับการเสนอชื่อเข้าชิงรางวัล Max Ophüls และรางวัล FIRST STEPS จากสถาบันภาพยนตร์เยอรมัน นอกจากนี้เธอยังได้รับรางวัลภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมสำหรับผู้กำกับหน้าใหม่จากเทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติอุรุกวัย และรางวัลบทภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมจาก H.W. Alisa Berger was born 1987 in Makhachkala (Republic of Dagestan, Russia) and raised in Lviv (Ukraine) and Essen (Germany). She studied film and fine arts at the Academy of Media Art Cologne (KHM) and at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia Bogotá. With her 2017 KHM diploma film, she was nominated for the Max Ophüls Prize and for the FIRST STEPS Award of the Deutsche Filmakademie. She was also the recipient of the Best Film Award for New Directors at Int. Film Festival Uruguay and the Screenplay Award of H.W. Geißendörfer. 2018 – 2022 she lived in Tokyo and studied Butoh. Her work often deals with a search for the spiritual, non-rational drive in our world, cultures whose practices of knowledge acquisition are related to religious ideologies, mortuary cults or futuristic concepts of these beliefs.
2022 – 2024 she enrolled in the program of Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains, where she realized her new film “INVISIBLE PEOPLE” and received the Prix Studio Collector at Jeu de Paume, and the Prix Analix Forever. Her first-ever VR installation “RAPTURE II – PORTAL,” was awarded the Best Immersive Film Award at One World Festival 2025.
Her filmprojects have been shown at festivals such as Berlinale, IDFA, CPH:DOX, Hot Docs, Sitges, One World, Docpoint, among many others. Her artistic works have been shown in many group shows, among them venues like the Eye Filmmuseum (Amsterdam), Jeu de Paume (Paris), Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (Tokyo), Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris), Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art (Washington DC), Kindl – Center for Contemporary Art (Berlin), KAI 10, Arthena Foundation (Düsseldorf), Dovzhenko Centre (Kyiv), MMOMA (Moscow), the BACC (Bangkok) or MAC (Birmingham).
