In a dream journal I find notes to make a film, but there is nothing concrete about the dream that generated them. Just a mix of fascination and concern. I decide to retrace my steps and start at the place where I grew up: the Faculty of Architecture and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. The history of sciences and cities is founded on a structure of power and bureaucratic violence, and at the same time, these institutions are inhabited by sensitive scientists who wonder about other ways of cohabiting the world.
In the contradiction, I become a witness to the unexpected: birds dreaming synthetic melodies, a parrot singing songs about animals, a monkey howling in response to the roar of engines. How do these institutions see and hear? How is knowledge about nature represented over time?

Julián Galay is an “undisciplinary” composer working with sound, images, and language across performances, books and experimental film. His body of work explores the unconscious of architectural spaces and scientific institutions, tracing their connections to supernatural and postnatural phenomena through various modes of listening. Based in Berlin. His work has been presented throughout South America, Europe, and Asia, in festivals and venues including FID Marseille (France), Gare du Nord (Switzerland), MACBA and Matadero (Spain), MUAC and Fonoteca Nacional (Mexico), KM28 and Morphine Raum (Germany), as well as Sónar, MUTEK, Tsonami, BP.17, RUIDO, Teatro Colón, Teatro San Martín, and Centro de Arte Sonoro (Argentina). As a sound designer, he has collaborated with Antes Muerto Cine, Forensic Architecture, the Institut for Postnatural Studies, and the Center for Spatial Technologies, with presentations at Berlinale, Deutsches Theater, Lincoln Center, Portikus, Akademie der Künste, FIDMarseille, Anthology Film Archives, Louisiana Museum, Gropius Bau, Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, MAMBA, Visions du Réel, and DocLisboa.
