A Moon for My Father

Filmmaker and artist Mania Akbari collaborates with British sculptor Douglas White in a dialogue between cinema and sculpture, tracing their evolving artistic and personal relationship through reflections on skin, family, death, water, desire, destruction and renewal.
As Akbari undergoes a series of surgeries following cancer, the film connects her physical trauma to political history and collective memory. The body becomes a site where illness, censorship, violence and history converge, but also a space for reconstruction, possibility and new life.

มานีญา อักบารี (เกิดปี 1974) เป็นศิลปิน ภัณฑารักษ์ และผู้สร้างภาพยนตร์แนวสตรีนิยม ผลงานของเธอสำรวจการเมืองของร่างกาย ความทรงจำ เพศสภาพ ความรุนแรง ความเจ็บป่วย และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประสบการณ์ส่วนบุคคลกับประวัติศาสตร์ ผ่านกระบวนการสร้างภาพยนตร์ที่มักมีลักษณะร่วมมือและมีส่วนร่วม เธอเป็นที่รู้จักในระดับนานาชาติจากทั้งการแสดงนำใน Ten ของ Abbas Kiarostami และผลงานกำกับของตนเอง เช่น 20 Fingers, 10+4, Life May Be, A Moon for My Father, How Dare You Have Such a Rubbish Wish และ Three Ways of Returning. 20 Fingers ได้รับรางวัลจาก Venice International Film Festival ขณะที่ A Moon for My Father ได้รับ New:Vision Award จาก CPH:DOX และ FIPRESCI International Critics Award.
Mania Akbari (b. 1974) is an internationally recognised artist, curator and filmmaker whose work explores body politics, memory, sexuality, violence, illness and the relationship between personal experience and political history. Her filmmaking often employs collaborative and participatory processes. Known both for her leading role in Abbas Kiarostami’s Ten and for her own films, her major works include 20 Fingers, 10+4, Life May Be, A Moon for My Father, How Dare You Have Such a Rubbish Wish and Three Ways of Returning. Her films have received major international recognition including prizes at the Venice International Film Festival, CPH:DOX and the Flying Broom International Women’s Film Festival.

Douglas White (b. 1977, Guildford, UK) is a British sculptor known for transforming found, natural and damaged materials into works concerned with decay, change and renewal. A graduate of the Royal College of Art, his work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including Saatchi Gallery, ARoS Museum and Fondation EDF. He received the Man Group Drawing Prize and Deutsche Bank Pyramid Award in 2005, and his work is held in major private and institutional collections.
