Wanling Chen เป็นโปรแกรมเมอร์เทศกาลภาพยนตร์สารคดีนานาชาติไต้หวัน (TIDF) และดำรงตำแหน่ง Head of Documentary ที่ Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI) เธอเข้าร่วมทีมโปรแกรมของ TIDF ตั้งแต่ปี 2013 โดยเริ่มจากการดูแลสายประกวดของเทศกาล ก่อนหน้านั้นเคยทำงานเป็น Programme Executive ของ CNEX Chinese Doc Forum (CCDF) ระหว่างปี 2012–2013

WTD! invited Wanling Chen, programmer at the Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF) and Head of Documentary at the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI), to share five films that caught her attention. Moving from history, war, and memory to the body and the playful border between fact and fiction, these are five films Wanling would love you to discover at WTD! 2026.

Wanling Chen is a programmer for the Taiwan International Documentary Festival (TIDF) and Head of Documentary at the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI). She joined the TIDF programming team in 2013, initially overseeing the festival’s competition section. Prior to that, she worked as Programme Executive at the CNEX Chinese Doc Forum (CCDF) from 2012 to 2013.

Beyond film selection and programming, Wanling has been invited internationally as a juror, speaker, mentor, and programme advisor. Her curatorial interests include memory, history, archival images, contemporary politics, and the reinterpretation of images that have been lost, displaced, appropriated, or given new meanings in different contexts.

Wanling Chen will also be joining us in Bangkok for WTD! this year. For documentary filmmakers, this is a chance to meet her, exchange ideas, have a conversation, or introduce her to your work during the festival.

1. The Flowers Stand Silently, Witnessing
   Archival footage from British Mandate Palestine connects the filmmaker’s family history with the present, using the seemingly naive footage to evoke land, displacement, and rebirth, while reflecting on historical trauma and the experience of being uprooted.

2. CycleMahesh
   Inspired by a news story, the film blurs the boundaries between fact and fiction through a collaborative reenactment, exploring the nature and possibilities of cinema with a playful, theatrical sensibility. It is a film about film and filmmaking.

3. Girls Don’t Cry
   “As a woman who grew up in Asia, I am curious about how girls around the world grow up, and how they navigate their inner desires and struggles within the societies they live in.”

4. Masayume
   After the loss of her mother and her own illness, the filmmaker explores death, the mother-daughter relationship, and the self through bodily sensations and experimental image-making, seeking peace and reconciliation through the connection between body and world. By deconstructing the self from within, she explores the possibility of achieving balance between body, mind, and spirit. The work is distinctive in its approach and imbued with a strong experimental spirit.

5. Night Shift
   The war we imagine is often filled with bombs and missiles, but the film offers a different perspective through personal experiences and everyday life, allowing us to see war from a different dimension. News of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia seems to be gradually fading from the mainstream media, but for those who continue to live in Ukraine, it is far from over.
